Meiosis is a specialized form of cell division that produces reproductive cells, such as plant and fungal spores, sperm and egg cells.
All cells originate from other cells. The primary mechanism by which this occurs is through cell division. In general, this process involves a parent cell splitting into two or more daughter cells. In this way, the parent cell is able to pass on its genetic material from Every cell in your body are Diploid cells except for sperm&eggs |
In Prophase 1 the chromosomes condense, the nuclear envelope breaks down, and crossing over occurs. Then, in Metaphase pairs of homologous chromosomes move to the equator of the cell. Next up is Anaphase 1 where Homologous chromosomes move to the opposite poles of the cell.

The last step is Telophase and Cytokinesis, the chromosomes gather at the poles of the cells, where the cytoplasm divides. Then, all of these steps just repeat themselves. Onto Prophase 2 a new spindle forms around the chromosomes.

In metaphase 2 the chromosomes line up at the equator. Then comes Anaphase 2 which is where the centromeres divide. The chromatids move to the opposite poles of the cells. As you might have guessed it, the final step is Telophase 2 and cytokinesis. This is where a nuclear envelope forms around each set of chromosomes and where the cytoplasm divide.
